As part of Session 2 of our Message Series, NEW YEAR, NEW YOU, here is the Daily Guided Meditation for the upcoming week……….10 minutes a day. Enter the silence. Listen to God’s voice.

DAILY GUIDED MEDITATION

STEP 1 – BE COMFORTABLE
Sit comfortably. Relax your muscles, particularly the neck, shoulders and face. Your posture should be comfortable. Your arms should rest in the lap or lightly on the knees.

STEP 2 – BREATHE
Close your eyes and take several long breaths through your nose. Feel your stomach rise and fall as you breathe from your diaphragm.

STEP 3 – PRAYER
As you begin, SLOWLY offer this prayer by Henri Nouwen

Dear God,
I so much want to be in control.
I want to be the master of my own destiny.
Still I know that you are saying:
“Let me take you by the hand and lead you.
Accept my love and trust that where I will bring you,
the deepest desires of your heart will be fulfilled.”
Lord, open my hands to receive your gift of love.
Amen.

STEP 4 – LISTEN
Listen to your heart. It’s there that Jesus speaks most intimately to you. Praying is first and foremost listening to Jesus who dwells in the very depths of your heart. God doesn’t shout. God doesn’t thrust himself upon you. God’s voice is an unassuming voice, very nearly a whisper, the voice of a gentle love. Hold yourself in God’s presence without asking for anything in particular. If any thoughts, hopes, or desires come to mind, make a mental note of them.

NOW, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND SPEND 5 MINUTES IN SILENCE.

STEP 5 – GRATITUDE
When you are done, conclude with a brief, silent prayer of gratitude (using your own words) for God’s loving presence. Close with this prayer:

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and shall be for ever.
Amen.
