Receiving ashes on Ash Wednesday is an important part of our Ash Wednesday Liturgy as we begin the liturgical season of Lent. This year, Ash Wednesday will look different as we continue to keep on another safe and to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

We invite you to join us for the Live Stream of our Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday, February 17 at 7:00PM at stpetersdartmouth.org/watch.
This year, we invite you to impose ashes FOR OURSELVES or FOR FAMILY MEMBERS as you participate in our live stream.

If you wish to receive ashes in advance, we invite you to come to PICK UP your ashes at one of the following times:

Saturday, February 13 between 10:00-10:30AM

Sunday, February 14 between 12:00-12:30PM

Simply drive up to the front door of our church and pull down your car window. Someone (wearing gloves) will hand you a packet of ashes. Please do not get out of your car.

You will receive ashes in an envelope enough for up to 4 people. If you need more, just ask for another envelope. You will also receive a prayer to recite as you impose the ashes.

“Almighty God, you have created us out of the dust of the earth: Grant that these ashes may be to us a sign of our mortality and penitence, that we may remember that it is only by your gracious gift that we are given everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.”

While attending the service online, simply put your thumb into the ashes and trace the sign of the cross on your forehead or the forehead of a friend or family member while saying:

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
